Photocatalytic treatment based on TiO2 for a coal mining drainage

The aim of the present work was to evaluate effectiveness a heterogeneous photocatalyst based on TiO2 in treatment coal mining drainage which contains variety heavy metals and high concentration sulfates sulfides. photocatalytic behavior commercial reference Sigma Aldrich different materials synthesized using Sol-gel methodology with surface modifications sulfation fluorination processes were analyzed. To find possible correlation between physicochemical properties photocatalysts their behavior, characterization carried out X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT–IR), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance Spectra (UV-Vis DRS), N2 physisorption, X-ray photoelectron (XPS), particle size analysis. Results indicated that modification TiO₂ prepared laboratory allowed successful control this oxide. However, showed greatest removing such as: Fe, Cu, Cr, As after reaction for maximum 1 hour under continuous nitrogen flow light intensity 120 W/m2.
